The Dalwhinnie distillery is situated in the village of the same name between the Grampians and Monadliaths mountain ranges, practically in the centre of Scotland, and is the highest whisky distillery in Scotland (326m). In 1745 the camp of Prince Charles Stuart and his army was located just behind in the moor area. It was originally founded under the name Strathspey (the Spey originates nearby) and was renamed Dalwhinnie by the second owner. In 1905 it was sold at auction as the first distillery ever to foreign (American) ownership for 20 years.
The whisky is grassy in style, spicy with light peat and honey notes.
