Dallas Dhu: Founded: 1898 Debate: “Dälläs Du” Meaning: “Black field” Status: closed

The Dallas Dhu distillery is located just outside Forres in the direction of Grantown-on-Spey. Alexander Edward, the founder, sold the distillery before it went into production to Wright & Greig Ltd. in Glasgow, who wanted to secure the malt supply for their Blend Roderick Dhu. The first barrel was filled on 3 June 1899 and the last barrel on 16 March 1983. Since 1988 the distillery has been a museum run by Historic Scotland. You can see the whole production from the barley to the whisky. If Diageo’s licence had not been cancelled in 1992, it would have been possible to resume production…
The whisky is silky in style, honey sweet and aromatic with vanilla and partly chocolate notes.
