Dalmore: Foundation: 1898 Debate: “Dalmór” Meaning: “Great valley* Status: closed

The Dalmore distillery is located on the Cromarty Firth river near Alness. Alexander Matheson was the founder and in 1867 it passed to the Mackensie family. The deer head of her family coat of arms adorns the dalmoric bottles. The family was close friends with Charles Whyte and Charles Mackay and later merged to Whyte and Mackay Ltd. During World War I the buildings were converted by the Royal Navy into a mine factory, which also caused some damage by some explosions. 1922 after tough negotiations for compensation up to the Hous of Lords one could produce whisky again. In 1870 Dalmore was the first whisky to be exported to or imported from Australia.
The whisky is malty in style, voluminous and with pronounced sherry notes!
