Auchroisk: Foundation: 1974 Pronunciation: “Ok-roisk or Oth-roisk” Meaning: shallow at the red stream Status: in operation

The Auchroisk distillery is located near Mulben near Keith on the Burn of Mulben. It is said that in the late 1960s an employee of Justerini & Brooks went for a short walk with his dog on a trip to Rothes. He discovered a small gorge with a strong bubbling spring near Mulben. The water was extremely clear and came out in such large quantities that he reported this discovery to his boss. He knew about the importance of water for a good whisky. The ground-breaking ceremony took place in 1974. Auchroisk was not only to be an architectural designer object, the whisky produced in it was also to become a designer whisky. The ultra-modern distillery with its eight stills was built in order to be able to produce the ever-increasing quantities of malt whiskies needed for the group’s blends.
The whisky is slightly peaty in style and has a fine sherry note.
