Kininvie: Founded: 1990 pronunciation: “Kinin-wiu” meaning: “edge of marketplace or fairground* status: in operation

The Distillery Kininvie consists of only one building – the Stillhouse and is located in the middle of the Grant’s building complexes of Glenfiddich and Balvenie. It is ultra-modern and computer-controlled and is used above all to ensure that the Grants have enough paint not to have to use the Balvenie’s and Glenfiddich’s for their blends. Dr. Janet Sheed Roberts, granddaughter of William Grant, opened the distillery at the age of nearly ninety. She died in April 2012 as the oldest Scottish woman. On her 105th birthday, a 15-year-old Kinninvie was bottled as Hazelwood 105 – the old lady’s residence a few hundred metres north of the distillery.
The whisky is in style sherry, nuts, malt, sweet, fruity and slightly smoky.
