Kilchoman: Foundation: 2001 pronunciation: “Kil-houmen” meaning: “Coman’s church, name of nearby church Status: in operation

The Distillery Kilchoman is situated in the hilly area in the far west of Islay and was built after the model of the Farmdistillerien of the 19th century. Anthony Wills fulfilled a dream, but also had to endure a lot of ridicule from the big distilleries. In spring 2006 it was still burning and the Kiln and a part of the malt floors had to be rebuilt. The perseverance was worth it, however, as new fillings have been coming onto the market regularly since 2009.
The whisky is sweet, fruity, vanilla and peat smoke in style.
