Isle of Jura: Foundation:1810 Debate: “Eil of Tschura” Meaning: “Ile of deer* Status: in operation

The Distillery Isle of Jura can only be reached by ferry. In the early days, the whisky produced was very peaty and smoky. After a quarrel with the owner, the fergusons dismantled the facilities in 1900 and around 1920 the owner removed all the roofs of the buildings, as they only paid taxes for houses with roofs. It was not until 1960 that the distillery was rebuilt and production resumed in 1963. If one wants to visit the distillery, always make an appointment in advance, as people go home when the weather is calm. No miracle, because on Jura live only approx. 300 humans but there are 3000 – 4000 pieces of red deer.
The whisky is in the style of the un peaty: slightly oily, nutty, a hint of smoke and slightly salty. With peat: spices, cinnamon, smoky and salty.
