Benromach: Established: 1898 Debate: “Benrómach” Meaning: “shaggy spiky mountain* Status: in operation

The Benromach distillery is located in Forres near the Findhorn estuary. The then owner of the Ben Nevis Distillerie Duncan MacCallum founded the distillery in 1898 together with the liquor merchant F.W. Brickmann. The sudden end of the whisky boom was also their downfall. Owners changed as well as reopenings and closings. After a conversion in 1974 by DCL they produced only 9 years. It was not until the takeover of Gordon & MacPhail in 1993 and a 5 year conversion that it was officially reopened almost exactly 100 years after it was founded by Prince Charles.
The whisky is light in style, soft with sherry and fruit notes.
