Ben Nevis: Founded: 1825 Pronunciation: “Ben Newes or Niwisch” Meaning: mountain of the sky, the cloud or snow Status: in operation

The Ben Nevis distillery is located near the highest mountain massif of the same name in Scotland in Fort William on the Lochy River. “Long John” the very tall John MacDonald was the founder and after him a worldwide known Blend was named, which never had anything to do with the MacDonalds. Ben Nevis was one of the first distilleries to produce both grain and malt whisky. For a long time it was only used for test distillations and storage. Only since 1990 has whisky been produced again under Japanese ownership.
The whisky is oily in style, with little smoke, honey, chocolate, nut and heather.
