Guadeloupe, also called Gwada belongs to the French Antilles. Like all the Caribbean islands, many black people live there, due to the time of slavery. Sugarcane and bananas have long been the main crop of the island. This also created a flourishing rum trade. In Guadeloupe, Rhum agricole is mostly produced as well as industrial rum. Between 1890 and 1945, today’s rum distilleries were created: Damoisseau, Montebello, Longueteau, Séverin.
