Fidji is an island state in the South Pacific in northern New Zealand and eastern Australia. The indigenous people, the Melanesians, probably came from Southeast Asia more than 3000 years ago and farmed and caught fish. From 1860 European planters occupied and cultivated cotton. After Fidji was declared crown colony in 1874, Australian and British companies focused on sugar cane cultivation. Sugarcane is besides fish, textiles, wood and coconut oil the most important export product and tourism is also a source of income.

There are several brands of Fidji Rum, some of which are bottlings from well-known independent bottlers from other spirits sectors.
