Nose: Notes of vanilla, caramel and cocoa are underpinned by spicy oak, leather, pepper and tobacco. Underneath are dried fruits and oranges, toast, roasted nuts and coconut flakes. Spice notes with anise, cinnamon and fennel seeds are joined by the smell of damp earth. A very nice nose with an extensive aromatic spectrum.
Palate: dry. Oak spice dominates the flavour profile, joined again by vanilla, caramel and cocoa. Cinnamon, nuts and burnt toast can also be made out. The fruit flavours (banana and dried fruit) are not very pronounced. The palate impression cannot quite keep up with the beautiful bouquet. The low drinking strength is also noticeable, especially in comparison to higher-proof bottlings such as the Foursquare Exceptional Cask Releases. The finish is medium to long with oak, tobacco, leather, caramel and dark chocolate. Some spice notes (cinnamon, aniseed, pepper) and dried apricots also flash through.
