Glenmorangie: Founded: 1843 Pronunciation: “Glen-moränschie” Meaning: “Valley of great meadows or tranquillity* Status: in operation

The Distillery Glenmorangie is north of Inverness in Tain and was originally housed by a brewery. The stills at Glenmorangie are the highest in Scotland at 5m13 and the first barrel finishes were made there.  The Glenmorangie emblem is a copy of the Hilton of Cadboll Stone (the original of one of the most important works of early European art is in the Loading Museum) and was carved by a local stonemason in more than 4 years of work and adorns the company grounds.
The whisky is soft, spicy, partly vanilla, malty, fruity and nutty in style.
