Glen Scotia: Founded: 1832 Debate: “Glen Sgoscha” Meaning: “Valley of Scots” Status: in operation

The Glen Scotia Distillery is located in the former whisky stronghold Campbeltown in the south of the Kintyre Peninsula. The building could almost be overlooked as it looks like an apartment house. The distillery was for sale again and again, was closed or produced only partially. Perhaps not least because it is said that the spirit of Duncan MacCallum haunts and some are reluctant to work there. Duncan committed suicide in 1930 because he could not keep the distillery.
The whisky is fresh in style, aromatic, chocolaty with a hint of salt and smoke. As a strongly peaty version, it is fruity, aromatic, slightly bitter and smoky.
