Girvan: Founded: 1963 Pronunciation: “Görwen” Meaning: mouth of the wild river and name of the town Status: in operation

The Girvan Distillery is located near the small port town of Girvan on the west coast of the Scottish Lowlands. The driving force was Charles Gordon, great-grandson of William Grant. He lived in a caravan on the site during the entire construction period and supervised the construction daily by bicycle. The night before the opening, the bicycle was kidnapped and attached to the silo – other sources talk about the high silence as a souvenir. Unique is that the column stills here work under vacuum.
