Blair Athol: Foundation: 1798 Debate: “Blähr Äßol” Meaning: “plain or moor from Athol* Status: in operation

The distillery Blair Athol is located in the almost homonymous village Blair Atholl in the middle of the Highlands. John Stewart and Robert Robertson founded the distillery under the name Aldour. The name came from the nearby river Allt Dour. It was only after the expansion by James Robertsen in 1825 that it was renamed Blair Athol. Almost 90% of the produced whisky is used for Blends Bell’s. The architecture of the Distillery’s natural stone house could indeed date back to the founding years, but it was completely rebuilt in 1949 and, like many others, is owned by Diageo.
The whisky is slightly smoky, spicy and nutty in style.
