[:de]Longrow: Founded: 1828 Pronunciation: “Longrou” Status: operational

Longrow is produced at the Springbank Distillery, which is located in the former whisky capital of Campbeltown. In the 17th and 18th centuries, there were many illicit distilleries in this area. The proximity to Ireland (20 km) and the ability to bring whisky across the small islands of the Firth of Clyde to the Scottish mainland played an important role. Springbank is one of the few distilleries still owned by the founding family and has been carrying out all steps from malting to bottling itself since 1992. The whiskies produced are Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn, all distilled in the same stills. The first distillation is the same for all three types. Longrow undergoes a regular second distillation. For Springbank, a large portion of the feints from the second process is mixed with a small amount of low wines from the first process and distilled a third time, which is equivalent to a 2 1/2 distillation. Hazelburn is triple distilled. Additionally, the malt is produced differently: unpeated for Hazelburn, heavily peated for Longrow, and somewhere in between for Springbank. In the annual production, the proportion is: 60% Springbank, 20-25% Longrow, and 15-20% Hazelburn.

The whisky’s style is earthy, peaty, fruity, slightly sweet, and malty.[:]
