Linlithgow/St. Magdalene: Founded: 1765 Pronunciation: “Linlitgou” Meaning: “Name of the town.” Status: Renamed to St. Magdalene in 1824, closed in 1983

The malt distillery Linlithgow, later St. Magdalene, was located in the town of the same name, west of Edinburgh. It was not until 1798 that the distillery began production under its new owner, Adam Dawson. Dawson was one of the first in Scotland to license and legalize a distillery, obtaining a license for Linlithgow in 1824. Shortly after receiving the license, the distillery was renamed “Saint Magdalene.”

The whisky’s style is grassy, malty, slightly bitter, lemony, peaty, and smoky.
