Linkwood: Founded: 1821 Pronunciation: “Linkwuud” Meaning: “Strebholz (name of an estate)* Status: operational

The distillery Linkwood is located in a suburb of Elgin. It was a large and popular distillery in the 1830s, producing twice as much whisky as The Glenlivet at that time. Due to high demand, the distillery was demolished and rebuilt between 1872 and 1874. One of the most curious whisky stories is associated with Linkwood: the then-manager Roderick Mackenzie was obsessed with the belief that everything must remain exactly the same to produce the same whisky. When a cleaning crew removed the cobwebs, he refused to make whisky and waited until the spiders had spun their webs again! During his era, the webs were never removed again.

The whisky’s style is malty, grainy, fruity, vanilla, aromatic, slightly smoky, and sweet.
