Founded: 1964 Pronunciation: ‘Garn-hies’ Meaning: Decorated with heather Status: closed in 1986

The Garnheath distillery was a pure grain distillery in a huge distillery complex with two malt whisky distilleries, a large malting plant and many warehouses in the town of Airdrie in the east of Glasgow. Today, only the warehouses and the maltings remain, all the other buildings have been demolished. The malthouse is now owned by another company.

Like the malts from Killyloch or Glen Flagler, Garnheath as a single grain is an absolute rarity. To date, only bottlings from independent bottlers have appeared on the market
