Austria – Austria is not considered a rum country, but the “Inländer Rum” is produced. This is a protected name for rum from Austria and must be 100% produced in the country. Its origins go back to a pharmacist from Krems on the Danube, who in the 19th century made a rum-like drink from ethyl alcohol, water and various flavorings and dyes. He was an example of the many alcoholic beverages produced in pharmacies, such as a bittersweet.
There are currently eight popular rum brands: Spitz, Mautner, Gautier-Mückstein, Lehar, Straw, Felser, Alte Excellenz and Riquet. Where in Switzerland especially the straw rum with 80% is very well known.
