The most famous rum of Australia is called by the locals only affectionately “Bundy”. By the polar bear on the label, he is now an international brand and the Distillery exist since. The distillery was founded in 1888 by local sugar suppliers who did not know where to go with the whole cane. With the sugar industry you saw the chance in Australia to produce Queensland rum. Bundaberg Rum is currently owned by Sam McMahon, brother of the former Minister of Agriculture. Sam also redrawn the polar bear and invented the square bottle. Now the polar bear is one of the most recognized trademarks in Australia. In 1997, so much rum was sold that it had to be rationed because you could not distill enough. Currently, every 10th bottle of Spirit sold in Australia is a Bundy.
