Scotch is derived from Scottish and actually denotes only the origin of the whisky. For many years, this term is written in British law and universally recognized as protected so that the geographical origin is ensured, no unfair competition can take place and the reputation of Scotch whiskey of quality and integrity is underpinned.

In order for a whiskey may call Scotch he has under this Act: be prepared at a distillery in Scotland from water and malted barley (it may only whole grains of other cereals are added).
