Why is it called Scotch Scotch?

Scotch is derived from Scottish and actually denotes only the origin of the whisky. For many years, this term is written in British law and universally recognized as protected so that the geographical origin is ensured, no unfair competition can take place and the reputation of Scotch whiskey of quality and integrity is underpinned.

In order for a whiskey may call Scotch he has under this Act: be prepared at a distillery in Scotland from water and malted barley (it may only whole grains of other cereals are added). The grain was previously processed into mash and converted only through their own enzymes and fermented with yeast together. The distillation must be done under an alcohol content of less than 94.8%, remain so the distillate preserve the aroma and taste of the raw materials used. It shall mature in oak casks not exceeding 700 liters in an excise warehouse in Scotland. The maturation may not be less than 3 years. The color, aroma and the taste is derived from the raw materials, which it has received during its distillation and maturation. This only water or simple caramel may be added. Also must have a Scotch at least 40 percent by volume.
