Anguilla belongs to the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean and is an overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Christopher Columbus discovered this island on his second trip to America. But it was not settled until about 1650 by British – especially Irish. As an island built on corals and limestone, it has very few resources and the island’s main income is tourism. C.J. Planters, a sailor from England, is said to have fallen in love with an islander resident, went into her father’s rum business and built a distillery at the end of the 18th century. Later, rum was no longer produced there, but for a long time it was a center for the “blending” of Caribbean rum. Today, everything has been shut down and rum production has become secondary.
The most famous rums variety: Pyrat is produced today in Guyana, but is the rum of Anguilla!
