Hennessy was founded in 1765 by emigrating to France Irish Richard Hennessy. But it was his son James who first started making cognac. Already at the end of the 17th century it was exported overseas. Now produced in the 7th generation and together with the family Fillioux – their master wineries – is planned long term and so over time a unique supply of “Eaux-de-vie” has emerged. From this Hennessy creates her extraordinary Cognac. Kilian Hennessy merged with champagne producer Moët Chandon in 1971, and in turn merged with handbag maker Louis Vuitton in 1987 to become the largest luxury goods company (LVMH) in the luxury goods industry.
